State Representative Cherrelle Parker
Neighborhood volunteers were brought from behind scenes to the center stage Saturday. Some 30 of these largely unsalaried community helpers and merchants who extend themselves into the neighborhood were showered with a stunning engraved laque, corsages and flowers, a full course meal buffet meal, and live entertainment from some of the best Philadelphia recording artists. This was the "First North west Community Appreciation Awards Luncheon: Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Work in Our Neighborhood" hosted by State Rep. Cherelle L. Parker of Mount Airy. The event combined the live musical sounds of the Intruders, Kindred and the Blue Notes with high-energy awards program inside the state-of-the-art ambiance of the new Temptations Banquet Hall, 220 W. Chelten Ave.) in Germantown, last Saturday afternoon. "The purpose of this event is to pay homage to the individuals we often forget," said Parker. "By celebrating these individuals we are acknowledging the vital role they play in our lives and our communities.
